I’m Emily Kitchen, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and I have been providing mental health counseling for five years in different capacities. I implement effective psychotherapy methods to instill self-understanding among clients and encourage them to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix: therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the client. But in the end, making small changes to self-defeating behavior and coping with feelings of shame, guilt, and fear can bring life-altering results. I specialize in working with adult individuals with perinatal/ postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD; fertility and pregnancy challenges; adjustment to parenthood; generalized anxiety disorder; and depression. I love working with parents and helping you feel like a more confident and present parent, partner and friend. I am a member of Postpartum Support International (PSI) and certified with their Maternal Mental Health Certificate (PMH-C). All of my sessions are via Zoom so it is accessible and where you feel most comfortable. I only serve clients who reside in the state of Illinois (license #149.021850) and Indiana (#34009674A). I also provide walking therapy as a service if in proximity to my virtual office.
** As of March 2023, I will no longer be taking new clients due to maternity leave scheduled for this summer. I will resume taking clients in the late fall. If you need help with referrals please let me know.
My background is I graduated from University of Illinois at Chicago with a Masters in Social Work and my undergrad at Indiana University in Nonprofit Management. I reside in an Indianapolis suburb with my husband, “pandemic” toddler and dog. I recently moved from Chicago and enjoying being back as a Hoosier. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, trying new foods and places, traveling, practicing yoga and playing tennis.

At this time I only accept Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS PPO), Cigna & United Healthcare insurance. If out of pocket then the cost is $130/ session. I provide sliding scale for those who qualify based on income if slots are available. I do this to make it reasonable for anyone to afford mental health services.
